Common questions about working with DataMedic

Data Security & Compliance

Yes, DataMedic is NHS-registered with an official ODS (Organisation Data Service) code. This registration validates our legitimacy as a healthcare data processor within the NHS ecosystem.

We hold DSPT (Data Security and Protection Toolkit) compliance and Cyber Essentials certification. These certifications demonstrate our commitment to NHS data security standards and protection against common cyber threats.

All patient data is fully anonymized in accordance with NHS best practices before any analysis. Personal identifiers are removed, and we implement aggregation thresholds to prevent re-identification. Data shared with pharmaceutical partners is always anonymized and aggregated.

All data is stored and processed exclusively in UK data centers. We do not transfer NHS patient data outside the UK, ensuring compliance with NHS data sovereignty requirements and GDPR.

Data Sources & Integration

We process data from the major NHS GP clinical systems including EMIS Web and SystmOne (TPP). Practices can securely export data from these systems for import into our platform.

We analyze NHS primary care data including patient demographics, diagnoses (coded with SNOMED CT), prescriptions, clinical measurements, and treatment pathways. We also process English prescribing data (ePACT2/OpenPrescribing) for pharmaceutical analysis.

GP practices export data extracts from their clinical systems (EMIS/SystmOne) which are then securely uploaded to our platform. The import process is straightforward and typically completed within minutes. We provide step-by-step guidance for practice staff.

Currently, we work with data extracts rather than live API connections. Practices can refresh their data as frequently as needed (weekly, monthly, or quarterly) depending on their requirements. This approach ensures practices maintain full control over what data is shared.

Services for Pharmaceutical Companies

We provide prescribing data analysis using NHS English prescribing data (OpenPrescribing/ePACT2), real-world evidence studies, market research on disease prevalence and treatment patterns, and bespoke analytics. All analysis uses anonymized, aggregated data.

We can provide anonymized, aggregated counts of eligible patient cohorts based on inclusion/exclusion criteria. We do not provide identifiable patient information. GP practices retain full control over patient recruitment decisions.

We analyze English prescribing data to provide insights on drug utilization patterns, market share analysis, geographic prescribing variations, treatment pathways, and therapy switching patterns. This uses publicly available NHS prescribing datasets.

All pharmaceutical partnerships require Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) and project-specific scopes of work. These agreements ensure GDPR compliance, define data usage terms, and establish clear boundaries for data access and analysis.

Getting Started

For GP practices, onboarding typically takes 1-2 weeks including agreement signing and initial data import. For pharmaceutical partnerships, timelines vary based on project scope but initial discussions and scoping usually take 2-4 weeks.

We offer disease-specific dashboards aligned with NHS clinical guidelines and QOF indicators. Current modules focus on population health management including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory conditions. Additional dashboards are developed based on NHS priorities and client demand.

Yes, we provide onboarding training for new users, documentation for data import processes, and ongoing email/phone support. As a startup, we offer personalized support to ensure successful platform adoption.

We aim to respond to all inquiries within 24 hours during business days (Monday-Friday). For existing clients, we provide dedicated support channels with priority response times for urgent queries.
